IoT Ecosystem: hansgrohe home
UMWERK is developing the IoT ecosystem for Hansgrohe’s new digital products. The centerpiece is the cloud backend, based on the AWS IoT Core. The aim is to connect the sensors and actuators of the company’s own product ranges, as well as various third-party products, with IoT technology and allow them to interact with each other. In addition, services for user administration, device management and statistical evaluations of telemetry data are connected and implemented.
The Hansgrohe Home app for iOS and Android is a core element of the digital strategy and offers users standardized access to the various digital products.

Challenge
The challenge was to go beyond standard solutions and drive forward the transformation of hansgrohe. This included bringing together a wide variety of devices in an efficient communication system, implementing IT protection standards and ensuring availability and performance worldwide. The aim was to go beyond conventional smart home solutions and enable a unique shower ritual tailored to the user, for example.
Solution
In order to meet the high requirements, an agile project was set up using the Scrum method. The central focus of the project was to place the user and their needs at the heart of product development.
The UMWERK experts developed a customized solution consisting of a cloud backend, mobile apps and embedded software for the digital control devices. The system components communicate in real time via the AWS IoT platform.
The cloud-based Hansgrohe Home app combines many different device types via Wi-Fi and also integrates selected external smart home devices.
